Cooperativas Agroalimentarias de Granada participa en el proyecto “Tomagroup”, cuyo objetivo es utilizar el destrío de tomate empleándolo como materia prima para el desarrollo de nuevos bioestimulantes agrarios sostenibles destinados a mejorar el crecimiento, rendimiento, respuesta al estrés, y calidad de los frutos del cultivo de tomate.
Esta iniciativa pretende reducir así el impacto medioambiental de la generación de este importante desecho agroalimentario y mejorar la productividad y la eficiencia en el uso de recursos naturales por parte de los agricultores y empresas del sector. Tomagroup fomentará, por tanto, la bioeconomía y la fertilización circular en el sector agroalimentario, consiguiendo mejorar la sostenibilidad y rentabilidad del cultivo de tomate.
El carácter innovador del proyecto reside en el propio sistema de bioeconomía y fertilización circular que se pretende crear dentro del sector agroalimentario, y en concreto, en el cultivo del tomate.
Con este sistema se promueve que el principal residuo generado en la cadena de valor que comprende su cultivo y comercialización (destrío de tomate) sea revalorizado dentro del mismo sistema, consiguiendo que sea un auténtico sistema circular “cerrado”, lo que reduce significativamente la huella de carbono, además de los beneficios medioambientales y económicos consecuencia del aprovechamiento y valorización de los desperdicios agroalimentarios.
Además de Cooperativas Agroalimentarias de Granada, participan en el grupo operativo que desarrolla el proyecto CIDAF (Centro de Investigación y Desarrollo del Alimento Funcional) como coordinador técnico de proyecto, el Grupo La Caña, Tecnova y Agrolaboratorios Nutricionales.
El desarrollo de este grupo operativo está dentro del marco del Programa de Desarrollo Rural de la Junta de Andalucía 2014-2020, financiado por la Junta de Andalucía y por el Fondo Europeo Agrícola de Desarrollo Rural, según la Orden de 7 de julio de 2020.
